Alexis Palmaffy is a multi-disciplinary artist who currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her work spans many mediums, including oil paintings, pen & ink drawings, copper plate etchings, Henna/tattoo, and even handmade Henna altar candles.
Alexis was born & raised by her artistic family in Maplewood, New Jersey. Her devotion to artmaking really began to blossom when she immersed herself in making hand drawn animations while studying film in High school. This experience informs her work to this day, as her pieces capture a still moment of motion & presence belonging to a larger narrative.
Alexis studied printmaking & oil painting at Mason Gross School of the Arts in New Brunswick, New Jersey. It was here that she interned at The Brodsky Center for Innovative editions & discovered the Magic of copper plate etching.
On a trip to Santa Fe, Alexis discovered the Santa Fe Etching club while looking for a public restroom on Canyon Road. It wasn't long until she became a regular member of this club. Shortly after, Alexis moved from the East Coast to the southwest to venture deeply into the natural & supernatural. Through this relationship & amazing mentorship she was able to develop & continue to pursue her passion for copper plate etching. Through it all, Alexis never stopped oil painting.
As a former Los Alamos, New Mexico resident , she describes this experience as where she spent 3 of the most transformative years of her life--- discovering the healing power of Henna & Tattoo through her relationship with the beautiful people of the Los Alamos community.
Her artistic education continued when she moved to Santa Fe & became fully immersed in the arts through work. She worked for many years in art conservation. She had the rare opportunity & privilege to restore antique paintings by The Taos Society of Artists (among many more) and developed a deeper understanding of New Mexico's rich artistic history from the spirits of the people who painted it best. She also worked as a professional Framer where she learned the importance of protecting and honoring art & the grueling work that goes on behind the scenes.
Alexis now lives in Santa Fe as a full time self employed artist. She is a proud member of The Santa Fe ArtistsMarket & participates in three art markets per week in The Santa Fe Railyard.
Alexis is a deep believer in the power of intention. The purpose of her art is to show that when we provide space for the divine to enter, the real magic happens. Her work spans a range of feelings & emotions -- from illustrating whimsical delight to the painful journey through the dark that is required in the healing of our universal soul.
